The last week I've been sick so haven't been able to produce much which is why I'm combining week 4 and 5 together in one post. At the beginning of the two weeks I really wanted to create a clear image of the band so I went about making character sheets for the three of them in Photoshop.
I think I'm probably most pleased with how the 2nd went, the drummer. I had an easier time translating my sketches into all the different angles of her character, whereas I had a hard time with the both Pansy and the pianist due to their hair. Pansy's spiked hair is especially hard at a 3/4 angle from behind and I spent a lot of time just trying to work out how I was going to do it. I really like how all the characters look together, you can imagine them together in a band, even in their school uniforms. Unfortunately since having made these model sheets I have made the decision that I should just include Pansy as the student in the film; the plot doesn't need all three of them, it would potentially overcrowd the frame at times, Pansy is the main focus and only Beano character, and I know I'm saving myself a lot of work by removing two extra characters, meaning it will be easier to finish the film in time. I am annoyed that Pansy's redesign is now less comprehensive due to the lack of her friends around her, as well as missing out on toying with how the characters play off each other, but it is overall the best choice to make.
I have finished a rough storyboard, the first few pages do feature the other two members of the band as I realised I should make it just Pansy part way through. I will be working on a more polished storyboard and animatic as my next step that will correct those first pages.
It feels good to have an initial storyboard out of my system and I'm looking forward to having it drawn out clearly in digital form and in time in my animatic.
