I enjoyed my western idea so I made a quick animatic of the storyboard, playing with body language and thinking about how I could use sound.
There's a lot more that I've seen it in motion and have the music changing when he enjoys the coffee. I'd like to add more shots, including more close ups as he walks up to the bar as I want the introduction to feel like a spaghetti western scene. I'd also like to add more when he tries the coffee, a close up on his face, or an extra sip.
Before I make an updated animatic I want to have a more certain character rather than a basic outline of one, so I've also been drawing out some ideas for cowboy characters whilst looking at old photographs from reference.
I've drawn up some of these sketches digitally along with some sketches of spaghetti western stars:
Another test I've made is a test for a different good cup of coffee sequence, I thought that if I were using colour at all like in my sketches from last week I could use colour as a way of showing a mood change rather than just the style. Here are my sketches and my test animation:
I've also made a rough test animation based on one of my café studies for a possible reaction to having a bad cup of coffee:
It's not perfect but I think it's helped me visualise the idea better for if I were to use it in the final sequence. I feel like the shiver could work if I applied it right, and keep the character consistent from beginning to end. I took inspiration from the following video at 0:22 where the central character shivers in the same way.
A more fully realised plan for the bad cup of coffee sequence is one of a young witch putting together a brew with floating ingredients going into a cauldron and she either makes it wrong or her cat pushes something in that isn't meant to be. I'd like the cat to be featured even if it doesn't sabotage her coffee as I think it could have it's own fun reactions to her reactions.
