I, along with a lot of us, am feeling pretty behind with all the modules after two weeks of 10x10 but am trying to pick my pace back up and get back into everything. For experimental I haven't made a great deal of progress but I have made my first attempt at making a silicone skin. It's my first time using silicone but I did okay. It's not the last time I'll be using it in this project as I didn't end up covering the whole of the mould, but I'd much prefer accidentally using too little than too much.
The cast split into the two sides of the plaster cast, so I need more silicone to go in next time, as well as more regularly turn the mould around whilst it's curing, making sure it stretches over the whole of the shape. Below you can see how the silicone was successful in picking out the fine details around the eye on one side, and the general shape of the bear on the other. I'm happy that my mixing of the silicone was efficient because I was worried I would have measured them out unequally or just not have combined them enough but it cured perfectly! Can go into the next attempt with a bit more confidence behind me.
That's all I've managed to do in the last week for experimental, looking less and less like I'll have time to attempt face replacements which is upsetting as it's the one I feel like could be really beneficial to have some experience with for next year. Getting onto Maya and working in 3D still seems really daunting. I might keep the designs the simplest they can be and see how I do from there.
