World in a Room - Week 2

Updated: Nov 26, 2020

This week I've been focusing on story and beginning on my puppet for the stop motion segment. The first storyboard I made was a lot longer than it needed to be, I got a little carried away with the story aspect of the film, which isn't really needed in the project. I went through the thumbnails I'd drawn out and highlighted which parts I needed in the film and also those that I could add if I had the time or felt added to the pace or feel of the film but weren't a necessity.

I then thought more about my character as I wanted my moon character to wear a hijab, and came up with a few alternative designs, which are below.

Below is my current progress with the puppet. I'm pleased with how it's going so far but I think I'll leave it for a bit until I know I have enough time to make the rest by starting on an animatic in the next week. I'm likely to start animating the hand-drawn part of the sequence with the sun in before working any more on the puppet too as I want to make sure I have time to make a finished narrative as close as possible to my intentions. I think it works well enough now as a puppet for animation, even if there's not much secondary action, and their hands can pick things up well enough too.

Another thing to consider is whether I can make more references to the Sun and Moon within the film, whether it's through details in the set or character design or through what they do to fill their time in their rooms.
