I've been working on the animatic for character animation, working from my storyboard, this week, here is the first animatic I made:
After watching it back I realised that I put it together at too quickly and needed to change the pace, especially at the beginning when the audience is being introduced to the concept and world. It's also not clear that after the second extreme wide shot with the sun and moon symbols above that the characters of the sun and moon become bored and go to the door for that reason, so I decided I should change the motive of the door opening too, below is my more recent animatic.
In this version the door is 'revealed' to both the characters in a way, for the Sun they tear away overgrown plants from the wall to have more space to draw only to find the door, and for the Moon the door's window is illuminated by the light of the Sun's room as these plants are pulled away. They both have thought about the existence of the other in this animatic too, the Sun drawing the Moon before the Sun on the wall, and the Moon finding pages about the Sun in a book in their shelves. To link the characters even more I've made it so that they have similar actions throughout the introduction too, when the Sun is climbing a tree the Moon is climbing a ladder, when the audience sees a close-up of the Sun's hand drawing a line they next see a close-up of the Moon's hand taking a book from the shelf.
I also did some research on the Sun and Moon in mythology, religion and folklore to insert into the film, these references mostly appear in the drawings on the Sun's walls:
