Over the last couple weeks I've done a few different things for the exhibition. We all made an animation of the lightbulb mascot jumping out of the logo's box during 10x10x22 but with our own spin on it. Here's mine:
I made the little guy as a cowboy because I enjoy the aesthetic of it and I figured it fit with him clicking his heels together. It's all made underneath a down shooter with a real painted lightbulb as the main body, and spectrum clay for the limbs and hat. It was good fun to make and even better when Alistair Brown added music to it.
I put these concepts in my 10x10x22 post too, but you can see how the little cowboy boots turned up on the character here. I made the hat out of clay on the day just to see if it would work and decided it fit the character too much not to include.
I've also made the poster! I posted the rough concepts of what they could look like on the discord chat the other week to get feedback and made the finished last week so we could begin to put them up a week before the exhibition.
The poster design is inspired by Astrid Goldsmith's film poster for Quarantine, where images from the film are organised in diamonds.
The feedback over the discord indicated that the 2nd and 8th designs were the favourites so I decided to work on the 8th design as I thought it drew more attention to the title and details of the exhibition.
This is the final poster which has begun to be posted around Edinburgh, so far it is mainly in the art campus, but some of us have taken a share of the posters to put them up around where they live. Non took responsibility of printing them through reprographics which was super helpful and they all came out looking great! For the most part they are A4, but we printed a few A3 as well for bigger spaces.
I have also been working on a brochure/booklet to buy at the event that should act like an exhibition art book. I've been making it in InDesign, including a little description of the exhibition, artist introductions used on socials, and a closer look at our animations and physical work.
I originally had it so every artist had a double page spread with their bio and some closer looks at their work plus any behind the scenes photos they have, and although I had a nice layout going for that I ended up changing it to a couple pages of just bios and a bts image here and there to make it more interesting. The rest of the booklet will be separated into medium with a small explanation of it and the work in the exhibition that corresponds to it.
I'll be checking in with people ono the discord throughout the process to make sure everyone is happy with the look of it and can contribute to the written elements where they want to.
For now I'm continuing with the exhibition book and making sure everything I'm putting into the exhibition is ready for Tuesday.
